Commercial Debt Recovery

End-to-end recovery of business-to-business invoices, from case assessment through structured engagement to proportionate escalation.

Commercial debt recovery is the process of converting an overdue business invoice back into cash without allowing the account to drift, deteriorate or quietly expire. It begins with an assessment of the debt and the debtor, not with a demand.

We act for creditors on single unpaid invoices and on multi-account ledgers. The approach is the same in principle and different in scale: understand the position, put credible and proportionate pressure on the correct legal entity, and give the client a clear commercial recommendation at each decision point.

Case assessment before contact

We review the invoices, contract or terms of business, purchase orders, delivery or completion evidence, statements and correspondence, and identify the correct debtor entity before any approach is made.

Structured debtor engagement

Written and telephone contact is sequenced deliberately rather than repeated indefinitely. The objective is to establish the debtor's actual position — ability to pay, willingness to pay, or a dispute that must be tested.

Interest and recovery costs

Where the transaction qualifies and the contract does not displace it, statutory interest and fixed compensation under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998 may be claimable. Entitlement is assessed on the documents, not assumed.

Proportionate escalation

Where voluntary recovery does not succeed, we assess whether formal pre-action correspondence, proceedings or an insolvency route is appropriate — with your authority, and only where it is commercially justified.

Common questions

How quickly do you act on a new instruction?
Cases are assessed on receipt and first contact with the debtor follows the assessment. We will confirm the intended approach and timeline with you before contact is made.
Will this damage my relationship with the customer?
Where the trading relationship matters, tell us at the outset. Tone, sequencing and channel of contact can be adapted while still producing credible commercial pressure.
What if the debtor disputes the invoice?
A dispute is assessed rather than accepted or dismissed. The first task is to determine whether it is genuine, capable of commercial resolution, or requires legal determination.
